Tirupattur constituency, represented by Kr. Periyakaruppan (DMK) since his 2021 re-election with 49.39% of votes, has seen mixed results over the past five years. The newly formed district (carved from Vellore in 2019) benefited from multiple development initiatives including state highway upgrades on SH-85 and SH-116, rural road development under PMGSY, and the Jal Jeevan Mission for tap water connections. Notable completions include check dams (₹100 crore, 2022-24), government hospital upgrades (₹50 crore, 2022-23), and 184 houses for Sri Lankan Tamil refugees (February 2026, ₹6.30 crore). The constituency also saw implementation of housing schemes under PMAY, rural electrification completed by 2024, and skill development programs under Naan Mudhalvan. However, significant controversies have overshadowed these achievements. MLA Periyakaruppan faced ongoing probes by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) for allegedly accumulating disproportionate assets during his tenure as Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister, causing public distrust. Civic issues remain severe: water contamination from tanneries has rendered groundwater unfit in areas like Jolarpet and Kalasapakkam, while tribal residents near Tirupattur threatened election boycotts due to lack of basic amenities. Public protests erupted over successive hikes in electricity tariffs, property taxes, water charges, and milk prices under the Stalin administration. Key promises remain unfulfilled, with the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme for Tiruppattur railway station showing no visible progress as of early 2026, and several NHAI projects awarded but not started by April 2025. Despite representing the constituency for four consecutive DMK terms (since 2016), voters have expressed disappointment over limited infrastructure development and poor implementation of schemes like the ₹1000 monthly assistance for women. As the 2026 elections approach, voters should weigh the completed development projects against persistent civic issues, corruption allegations, and the gap between promises and delivery that has characterized this term.
