Tamilarasi A. of the DMK has represented the Manamadurai (SC) constituency since winning the 2021 assembly elections with 89,364 votes (43.91%), defeating AIADMK's S. Nagarajan. Over the past five years (2021-2026), the constituency benefited from several state-wide development schemes under the DMK government, including infrastructure upgrades, healthcare expansion, and welfare programs. Key initiatives included the Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam doorstep healthcare scheme launched in August 2021, construction of over 2.43 lakh toilets under Swachh Bharat Mission, and drinking water supply to over 7.15 lakh rural houses under Jal Jeevan Scheme. The Chief Minister's Breakfast Scheme was expanded, and over 1 lakh houses were constructed under the Kalaignarin Kanavu Illam Scheme during 2024-25. In March 2026, a significant MoU was signed with MRF for a ₹5,300-crore tyre manufacturing plant in adjacent Sivaganga district, promising 1,000 jobs. Local infrastructure demands remained partially addressed during this period. While the state government prioritized road infrastructure with over ₹3,057 crore allocated for new roadworks statewide, specific local demands such as upgrading village roads between Manamadurai-Naraikudi via Annavasal, Maraiyur and Salaigramam, and Devakottai via Suranam and Sarukani were raised but their completion status remains unclear. Similarly, demands for new bus stands at Thiruppuvanam and Suranam and upgrades to existing ones in Manamadurai, Ilaiyangudi, and Salaigramam were made, with the government approving 99 new bus stands statewide with ₹1,120 crore allocation, though specific progress in Manamadurai is not documented. The MLACDS scheme allocated ₹702 crore annually for 2021-24, completing over 26,000 of 34,000 works undertaken statewide. Notably, no major controversies, corruption allegations, or public grievances specific to MLA Tamilarasi A. or the Manamadurai constituency were reported during this period. The constituency remained politically stable with no communal incidents or natural disasters affecting the area. The 2026 assembly elections are scheduled for April 23, 2026, with results expected on May 4, 2026. As voters prepare to decide, they should consider the implementation status of local infrastructure promises, the impact of state-wide welfare schemes on their daily lives, employment opportunities from new industrial projects, and whether the constituency's specific development needs have been adequately addressed over the past five years.
