Dindigul constituency in Tamil Nadu has been represented by C. Sreenivasan of AIADMK since 2016, winning re-election in 2021 with 90,595 votes (46.86%), defeating CPI(M)'s N. Pandi by 17,747 votes. During the 2021-2026 period, the constituency saw significant infrastructure development, including the widening of the Dindigul-Samayanallur stretch of NH-44 into a six-lane highway and completion of the Dindigul-Pollachi four-lane NH stretch. The area was selected for AMRUT Schemes focusing on urban development, water supply, and smart city initiatives. Central schemes like MGNREGS, Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural), and the Prime Minister's Housing Scheme were implemented, while the state government worked on water supply projects sourcing from the Vaigai river and improving electricity distribution networks. However, the tenure was marked by persistent civic challenges. Residents faced recurring issues with flooding during monsoons (notably in 2023), with waterlogging in areas like Krishnapuram and Vellalur due to inadequate drainage systems. Garbage management remained problematic through 2024, with waste accumulation causing health concerns and prompting resident protests. Water shortages affected nearby Kodaikanal in early 2026, where supply dropped to five-day intervals, severely impacting tourism and daily life. Villages reported groundwater depletion, forcing reliance on expensive tanker supplies. Promised infrastructure improvements and smart city projects progressed slowly, leading to public dissatisfaction and demonstrations at the Dindigul Corporation Office. Industrial support for the local lock manufacturing sector remained limited despite election promises. As voters approach the 2026 elections (polling on April 23, counting on May 4), they should weigh the infrastructure gains against unresolved civic issues, assess the pace of project implementation, and consider whether electoral commitments on water security, waste management, and urban services have been adequately addressed.
