CTR Nirmal Kumar, 44, is a multi-degree holder (engineering, law, and master's in criminology and police administration) currently serving as Deputy General Secretary (IT and Social Media) for the newly formed Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Born on July 27, 1981, in Usilampatti, Madurai District, Nirmalkumar has had a varied political journey, previously associated with BJP and AIADMK before joining actor Vijay's TVK. In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, he contested from Thiruparankundram as a DMK candidate but lost to V. V. Rajan Chellappa of AIADMK. He is contesting the same seat again in 2026, this time under the TVK banner, with declared assets worth Rs. 26.26 crores. Nirmalkumar's political career took a dramatic turn in September 2025 when a tragic crowd crush at a TVK rally in Karur killed 41 people. Police filed an FIR against him and other TVK leaders for culpable homicide, endangering lives, and disobeying lawful orders, alleging the permitted crowd size was exceeded. The Madras High Court sharply criticized TVK leadership, including Nirmalkumar, for failing to visit victims' families after the tragedy. Subsequently, he was arrested for allegedly making derogatory remarks against a Madras High Court judge regarding the stampede case and remanded to judicial custody for two weeks. Nirmalkumar sought pre-arrest bail, claiming allegations were politically motivated and blaming police for poor crowd management.
