V. Senthil Balaji, 50, is a politically seasoned but controversial DMK leader contesting from Coimbatore South in 2026. Born in Karur district on October 21, 1975, into the Gounder community, he started his political journey at age 19 with MDMK in 1994. His career has been marked by frequent party switches — from MDMK to DMK (1996), then to AIADMK (2000-2017), and back to DMK (2018-present). He was first elected as MLA from Karur in 2006 under AIADMK, and served as Transport Minister in J. Jayalalithaa's cabinet from 2011 to 2015, when he was removed amid corruption allegations. After being disqualified in 2017 during the AIADMK split for supporting TTV Dhinakaran, he joined DMK and won from Aravakurichi in 2019 and Karur in 2021. After his release, he was reinstated as minister and assigned the crucial task of leading DMK's campaign in western Tamil Nadu, a traditional AIADMK-BJP stronghold.
