Uthiramerur constituency in Kancheepuram district, with an electorate of approximately 2.43 lakh people predominantly comprising farmers and agricultural workers, has experienced mixed outcomes during 2021-2026. The agricultural community has faced persistent issues with unfair trade practices at District Procurement Centers (DPCs), water scarcity due to groundwater depletion, and lack of proper storage infrastructure. Farmers have repeatedly called for a permanent warehouse, groundwater replenishment schemes, and the linking of Palar and Thenpennai rivers, but these demands remain unfulfilled. Traffic congestion has been another major concern, with residents demanding a bypass road to ease connectivity issues. Several development projects have been delayed or stalled during this period, leading to public protests and growing dissatisfaction. The sitting MLA K. Sundar of the DMK party, elected in 2021, has no declared criminal cases against him. However, his tenure has been criticized for broken election promises and inability to address local grievances effectively. While the constituency has benefited from state-level governance improvements and broader industrial investments in Tamil Nadu, specific local infrastructure needs remain inadequately addressed. As voters prepare for the next election, they should weigh the lack of progress on critical local issues like water management, agricultural infrastructure, and traffic solutions against the broader developmental initiatives that may have indirect benefits for the constituency.
