Tiruppur (North) constituency, represented by K. N. Vijayakumar of AIADMK who won with 48.06% votes in 2021, has seen mixed progress over the past five years. Significant infrastructure development occurred, including the fourth drinking water scheme providing 1,17,436 house connections from Bhavani Barrage, the Athikadavu-Avinashi Irrigation Project launched in 2024, and completion of underground drainage connections by February 2024. A new 100-bed government hospital in Velampalayam was constructed at ₹47.56 crore with JICA assistance. The textile industry, contributing 54% of India's textile exports, implemented Zero Liquid Discharge systems across 450 dyeing units at ₹1,013 crore, addressing environmental concerns. However, persistent civic issues have plagued residents. Despite water supply projects, families continue spending ₹4,000-₹5,000 monthly on tanker water due to insufficient piped supply. Farmers in Mudalipalayam and Nallur protested garbage contamination that affected groundwater and agriculture, with some planning mass candidatures to pressure authorities. Rapid urbanization has strained infrastructure, particularly in newly urbanized areas, with poorly maintained roads and concerns about rural areas being neglected. Industrial pollution from textile units affecting the Noyyal River remains a concern despite ZLD implementation. As the 2026 elections approach with AIADMK's M. S. M. Anandan, CPI's Ravi Subramanian, and NTK's Abinaya Premkumar as candidates, voters face a constituency transformed by industrial growth but struggling with basic civic amenities. The constituency has seen substantial investment in water infrastructure and healthcare, but delivery gaps persist. Voters should weigh the completed infrastructure projects against ongoing water scarcity, environmental challenges, and unfulfilled promises of comprehensive civic amenities that match the pace of urbanization.
