Thiruvidaimarudur (SC), a reserved constituency in Thanjavur district, has been represented by Govi. Chezhian of the DMK since the 2021 elections, when he won with 95,763 votes (48.26%) against AIADMK's S. Union Veeramani, with a margin of 10,680 votes. The constituency benefited from state and central development initiatives between 2021-2026, including 89 rural roads spanning 370 km under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, RO-purified drinking water systems in areas lacking metro water, and stormwater drain and sewerage projects. The DMK government implemented key welfare schemes like Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam (₹1,000/month for women heads of households) and free bus travel for women. However, the period was also marked by significant controversies and civic failures. The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption investigated a major cash-for-jobs scam in the Municipal Administration and Water Supply department, with an FIR registered against high-level officials including Minister K.N. Nehru. The constituency, like other parts of Thanjavor district, faced severe challenges from the ongoing Kaveri water dispute with Karnataka, affecting irrigation and daily life. Sanitation crises plagued the region, with reports showing door-to-door waste collection reaching only 50% of households and operational public toilet availability dropping from 77% to 33%. Critics also pointed to unfulfilled promises including delays in NEET exemption, student loan waivers, and infrastructure projects. As voters prepare for the April 23, 2026 elections, they should weigh the welfare schemes and connectivity improvements against persistent governance issues, corruption allegations, and unresolved civic problems that have marked these five years.
