K. Ganapathy of the DMK has represented Maduravoyal constituency since winning the 2021 assembly election with 121,298 votes (44.64%), defeating AIADMK's P. Benjamin by a margin of 31,721 votes. The constituency, located in Chennai's western corridor and covering areas like Porur, Nolambur, Vanagaram, and Nerkundram, has experienced significant economic growth as part of Tamil Nadu's broader development, with the state's GSDP growing 16% in 2024-25. Major automotive investments like VinFast's ₹16,000 crore EV plant (August 2025) and Tata-JLR's ₹9,000 crore plant (February 2026) have boosted the state economy. At the constituency level, residents have reported some progress in infrastructure like sewer line laying and electrification. However, Maduravoyal continues to face persistent civic challenges that have frustrated residents throughout this period. Poor road conditions caused by frequent digging for cables and utilities without proper restoration have led to traffic bottlenecks and fatal accidents, including a law student killed by a speeding truck in 2024. Garbage disposal remains problematic with unsegregated waste left exposed for days, attracting stray animals. Water shortages persist in areas like MMDA Colony, where residents depend on tankers. Traffic congestion on arterial roads like Arcot Road and Poonamallee High Road remains severe, and the long-pending Chennai Port-Maduravoyal Expressway project continues to be a key electoral issue. The MLA has benefited from state-level schemes including the MLACDS allocation of ₹702 crore annually (2021-24) for constituency development, with over 34,000 works taken up statewide and 26,000 completed. However, residents feel that critical local issues—road maintenance, waste management, water supply, and public transport—remain largely unaddressed despite visible improvements in some areas. No criminal or legal cases have been reported against MLA Ganapathy during his tenure. As voters prepare for the April 23, 2026 election with 364,031 registered electors, they should weigh the constituency's economic potential and some infrastructure progress against the unresolved daily civic problems that continue to affect quality of life.
