R. Vinothini is a 34-year-old postgraduate and housewife contesting from the Thiruthuraipoondi (SC) constituency for the Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), a Tamil nationalist party led by Seeman. She first entered electoral politics in the 2021 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections from the same constituency, securing 15,362 votes (8.32% vote share) and finishing third behind the CPI candidate who won with 97,092 votes (52.60%) and the AIADMK candidate with 67,024 votes (36.31%). Her affidavit declares one criminal case with charges under Sections 143 (being member of unlawful assembly) and 341 (wrongful restraint), with assets totaling Rs. 18 lakhs. The NTK, Vinothini's party, has positioned itself as an alternative to the mainstream Dravidian parties DMK and AIADMK, advocating for Tamil nationalism and refusing to form alliances. In the 2021 elections, the party emerged as the third-largest force in Tamil Nadu, increasing its vote share from 1.76% in 2016 to 6.72% in 2021. The party has gained particular traction among youth and marginalized communities. However, NTK has faced multiple controversies, including its members being arrested for extortion and harassment cases, and the party's protests disrupting film screenings that required High Court intervention. For the 2026 elections, NTK has released an extensive manifesto proposing decentralized governance with multiple functional capitals across Tamil Nadu, development of medical tourism integrating traditional Tamil medicine, agricultural reforms, and infrastructure development. Vinothini is contesting again from Thiruthuraipoondi, a predominantly agricultural constituency in Tiruvarur district with a population of about 24,404. Voters should note that while limited information exists about Vinothini's individual achievements or development work in the constituency, she represents a growing political force that appeals to Tamil identity politics but has also been associated with party-level controversies.
