Chinthamani C, also known as C. Sindhu Ramasamy, is a 37-year-old first-time candidate contesting from Thirumayam constituency on a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) ticket in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Elections. A postgraduate who describes herself as self-employed, she has declared assets worth ₹5.57 crores with no criminal cases. TVK, founded by actor-turned-politician Vijay in February 2024, is contesting all 234 seats independently without alliances, aiming to present itself as a fresh alternative to the established DMK and AIADMK. The party has gained significant traction through Vijay's star power and welfare-focused promises, including monthly financial assistance for homemakers (₹2,500), unemployed graduates (₹4,000), free electricity, and AI integration in governance. However, TVK's electoral debut has been overshadowed by the tragic Karur crowd crush in September 2025, where 41 people died and around 100 were injured during a political rally. The Tamil Nadu Police filed FIRs against TVK leadership, including General Secretary N. Anand, for culpable homicide and endangering lives, with a CBI probe subsequently initiated. Chinthamani faces a challenging electoral battle in Thirumayam, a constituency historically dominated by DMK and AIADMK. In 2021, DMK's S. Regupathy won the seat with a narrow margin of just 1,382 votes. She will compete against the same S. Regupathy (DMK), P. K. Vairamuthu (AIADMK), and Lakshmi Seenivasan (NTK). TVK has positioned itself ideologically by drawing inspiration from Periyar, Ambedkar, and Dravidian ideals, while declaring the DMK as its 'political enemy' over corruption allegations in the Tasmac liquor trade and the BJP as its 'ideological enemy.' Voters should know that while Chinthamani represents a new political force with ambitious welfare promises, she is entirely untested in governance or public administration. Her party carries the burden of a major tragedy that resulted in 41 deaths and ongoing legal scrutiny.
