Dr.Kalai Kathiravan

Dr. Kalai Kathiravan is a 38-year-old DMK politician and medical professional contesting from Tenkasi constituency in Tamil Nadu. His family owns Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Medical College and Hospital in Perambalur and Cethar Hospital in Trichy. His political career shows a mixed electoral record - he won the Tenkasi constituency in 1971 with 55.66% votes (39,110 votes) and again in 2006 with 49.98% votes (69,755 votes), but lost the 2021 election by a razor-thin margin of just 370 votes to INC candidate S. Palani Nadar. Dr. Kathiravan is currently embroiled in a major controversy involving allegations of illegal kidney transplants at hospitals owned by his family. The Tamil Nadu government revoked the kidney transplant licenses of both hospitals after a special probe led by Health Systems Project Director S. Vineeth found evidence of forged documents and illegal organ procurement. The investigation revealed that brokers and transplant coordinators allegedly lured poor workers from districts like Pallipalayam and Namakkal to sell their kidneys for Rs 5-10 lakh, though they were often paid less.
