Arul Ramadas (also known as R. Arul, T. Arul), 27, is a sitting MLA from Salem West constituency who began his political career as a cadre member of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) and rose to become Salem district secretary. In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections, he won Salem West as a PMK candidate with 105,483 votes (49.07% vote share), defeating DMK's A. Rajendran by a decisive margin of 21,499 votes. He had previously contested the same seat in 2016 as an independent candidate, securing only 29,982 votes (14.81%), demonstrating his political growth within five years.
