Arunachalam V.P., a 73-year-old candidate from the newly formed Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), is contesting from the Perundurai constituency in Tamil Nadu. With education up to 12th standard and declaring himself as self-employed, Arunachalam has declared total assets worth ₹92 crore, including ₹79 crore in immovable property and ₹12.62 crore in movable assets, along with liabilities of ₹11.27 crore. Arunachalam is contesting on behalf of TVK, a party founded by actor-turned-politician Vijay in 2024. The manifesto sets a target of making Tamil Nadu a $1.5 trillion economy by 2036. However, the party has been marred by controversy, most notably the September 2025 Karur crowd crush incident during a Vijay-led rally that resulted in 41 deaths and over 100 injuries, leading to FIRs against party leaders for allegedly ignoring police safety advice.
