R. Gopi is a 49-year-old postgraduate businessman and authorized dealer for Hero MotoCorp in Dharmapuri who has entered politics as the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) candidate for Palacode constituency in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. With declared assets of approximately ₹19.4 crores (including ₹13.2 crores in immovable property and ₹6.2 crores in movable assets) and liabilities of ₹13.2 crores, Gopi represents a successful business professional venturing into electoral politics with a newly formed party. His candidacy is part of TVK's debut electoral campaign after the party was founded on February 2, 2024, by actor-turned-politician Vijay. Gopi is contesting on the platform of a party that positions itself as a left-of-center alternative advocating for secular social justice, women's empowerment, Tamil nationalism, and opposition to both the ruling DMK and the BJP. TVK has promised welfare schemes including monthly assistance for homemakers, unemployment aid, enhanced pension coverage, and technology-driven governance reforms in its 2026 manifesto.
