N. Anand, known as 'Bussy' Anand, is a 40-year-old politician currently serving as General Secretary of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), the political party founded by actor Vijay in February 2024. A graduate professional who studied at Calve College Puducherry, Anand has had a long political career spanning multiple parties and constituencies. He first entered legislative politics in 2006 when elected as MLA from Bussy constituency in Puducherry, serving until 2011. After unsuccessful attempts, he won the Neyveli constituency in Tamil Nadu's 2021 assembly elections on a DMK ticket with 75,177 votes, defeating PMK's K. Jagan by a narrow margin of just 977 votes. Anand's political career has been marked by frequent party switches—from Puducherry Munnetra Congress to All India N.R. Congress, then DMK, and most recently TVK in 2024. As General Secretary of TVK, he has been central to organizing the party's activities and rallies ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu elections. The party has promised an ambitious welfare-focused manifesto including ₹2,500 monthly assistance for female household heads, ₹4,000 unemployment aid for graduates, interest-free loans for women's self-help groups, and a target of creating 5 lakh government jobs. However, Anand's leadership has been severely tarnished by the September 27, 2025 Karur crowd crush tragedy during a TVK rally where at least 41 people were killed and around 100 injured. Tamil Nadu Police filed an FIR against Anand and other TVK leaders for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, endangering lives, and disobedience to lawful orders, alleging they ignored safety advice and violated traffic regulations.
