Matheswaran C, a 46-year-old driver with basic education (5th pass), represents Puthiya Tamilagam (PT), a regional Dalit-focused party in Tamil Nadu founded by Dr. K. Krishnasamy in 1997. His political journey shows remarkable growth from grassroots activism to becoming a significant electoral force in Namakkal constituency. Despite limited formal education, Matheswaran has built a political career centered on representing marginalized communities, advocating for social justice, education, and land rights. His electoral trajectory demonstrates dramatic improvement over eight years. In the 2016 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election, he secured only 10,506 votes (5.40%), finishing far behind AIADMK's K. P. P. Baskar.
