M.Sugumar

M. Sugumar is a 48-year-old fisherman-turned-politician contesting from Nagapattinam constituency on a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) ticket in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. With only a 5th standard education, Sugumar represents the grassroots connect that TVK, founded by actor Vijay in February 2024, seeks to establish. He declares assets worth ₹44.25 lakh (entirely movable assets with no immovable property) and liabilities of ₹4.47 lakh, consistent with his fishing profession background. In the 2021 elections, Nagapattinam was won by VCK's Aloor Shanavas with 66,281 votes (46.46%), defeating AIADMK's candidate who received 59,043 votes (41.39%).
