Sekar Nayakar, 63, is an agriculturalist-turned-politician from Mailam constituency in Viluppuram district, Tamil Nadu. His political career has been marked by both victory and defeat, with one successful term as MLA and two subsequent electoral losses. He won his first and only Assembly election in 2011 on an AIADMK ticket, securing 81,656 votes (53.92%) and defeating PMK's K.P. Nagarajan by over 20,000 votes to become the Member of Legislative Assembly from Mailam. However, his electoral fortunes declined in the following elections. In 2016, Nayakar lost to DMK's R. Masilamani by a significant margin of 12,306 votes, with his vote share dropping dramatically to 34.21% compared to Masilamani's 41.40%. He made a strong comeback attempt in 2021, narrowly losing to PMK's C. Sivakumar by just 2,230 votes despite securing 46.02% of the vote. His affidavit declares three serious criminal cases involving charges under IPC Section 307 (attempt to murder), Section 420 (cheating), Section 465, 468, and 471 (forgery and using forged documents), Section 351(2) (criminal intimidation), Section 341 (wrongful restraint), and Section 417 (cheating). These are serious allegations involving both violent crimes and financial fraud. With assets of Rs. 46.92 lakhs (13.92 lakhs movable and 33 lakhs immovable) and no liabilities, his declared financial position appears modest for a politician with his experience. Voters in Mailam should weigh his legislative experience from 2011-2016 against his criminal cases and recent party switch. His move to the untested AIPTMMK, a breakaway faction from AIADMK, adds uncertainty about his political prospects and ability to deliver for constituents. The lack of recent media coverage or documented development work raises questions about his visibility and achievements beyond electoral politics.
