S. Kamali is a 28-year-old postgraduate and homemaker contesting from the Avanashi (SC) constituency in Tiruppur district for the newly formed Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). With assets of Rs. 32.18 lakh and liabilities of Rs. 1.53 lakh, she represents a party making its electoral debut in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. This is her first political contest, with no previous election history. Kamali is fielded by TVK, a party founded on February 2, 2024, by actor-turned-politician Vijay, who serves as its first president. The party is contesting all 234 constituencies in Tamil Nadu in its maiden electoral battle. In Avanashi, she faces formidable opponents including Dr. V. Gokilamani of DMK (a young doctor from the Arunthathiyar community), Union Minister L. Murugan of BJP, and V. Menaka of NTK in a constituency with approximately 250,346 registered voters. The seat, previously an AIADMK stronghold held by P. Dhanapal since 2001, has been allocated to BJP for 2026 as part of their alliance strategy. While Kamali herself has no individual controversies or criminal cases, her party has faced significant challenges in its brief existence. The most serious was the Karur crowd crush on September 27, 2025, where 41 people died and 100 were injured at a TVK rally due to crowd surges when Vijay's arrival was delayed. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin formed a commission to investigate, and Minister Duraimurugan publicly criticized Vijay for not visiting affected families. Additionally, party president Vijay has declared two pending FIRs in his election affidavit - one for public disturbance during campaigning in Chennai and another for an alleged assault incident in Madurai. Voters in Avanashi should know that Kamali represents a completely new political force with an ambitious manifesto promising Rs. 2,500 monthly assistance for homemakers like herself, Rs. 4,000 unemployment aid for graduates, 200 units of free electricity, six free LPG cylinders annually, and interest-free loans up to Rs. 5 lakh for women. However, with no governance track record and the party's recent controversies, she remains an untested candidate in a highly competitive reserved constituency.
